Golden Nuggets

Librarians Sheila O’Hare and Irene Berry revel in their hometown in a new exhibit and book, called simply Santa Cruz, California (Arcadia Publishing).

Down south, historian Harry W. Crosby takes readers along on the first journey from northern Baja California’s unexplored wilderness to San Diego in his new Gateway to Alta California: the Expedition to San Diego, 1769 (Sunbelt Publications). “Here is a major contribution to the story of California and the larger history of the Spanish borderlands,” says state Librarian Kevin Starr.
