Thomas Steinbeck, author of Down to a Soundless Sea, will be the featured speaker Dec. 4 at the debut of the Steinbeck Center (a special collection of books and papers, photographs, paintings and other historic materials) at the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in San Jose.
The sprawling, $177 million library, a joint project between the city and San Jose State University, just opened in August. “We expect to greet our millionth visitor next week,” Jane Light, the city’s chief librarian, told the San Jose Mercury News. “We didn’t expect that to happen until next year.”
