An anonymous patron has donated $5 million to help renovate the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, which houses millions of historial documents, including original writings by Mark Twain, Joan Didion, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti and fragments of a lost play of Sophocles.
