Birds of paradise

For three years, volunteers traipsed up and down California tracking bird communities. And now Daniel Cooper, Audubon’s Director of Bird Conservation, has compiled the results in a new book, Important Bird Areas of California, that identifies 150 key habitats from Humboldt Bay to the Goleta Coast to the Salton Sea. These are places where threatened or endangered birds gather or where thousands of shorebirds or waterfowl might stop by on a single day. Read more.
