California author Michael Santos

has published three books … from behind bars. He’s an inmate at the federal lockup in Lompoc and the author of the recent (well-reviewed) book Inside. And now Santos has a blog too:

I am a man who has served 20 consecutive Septembers as a federal prisoner. I have served time in small jails and large jails. I have walked across puddles of blood in high security penitentiaries, endured race-based riots in medium-security, lived through obstacle after obstacle in low-security and camps. I’ve even walked through the shiny corridors of ADX Florence, our nation’s most secure supermax penitentiary, where several prisoners I once shared meals with are currently serving sentences of multiple life terms. Despite those obstacles, I have earned an undergraduate and a graduate degree, published several books, built a network of support that exposes my work to millions around the world…
