The book celebrates ten years of pairing Bay Area photographers with young people, ages 11 through 18, with backgrounds of foster care, homelessness or poverty. “It’s full of street scenes and portraits of kids throwing hand signs to represent the neighborhoods they’re from,” Regan McMahon writes in the San Francisco Chronicle. “But it also has sensitive shots of a single rose, a blurred bridge view, mah jong tiles, a grandmother’s gravestone.” First Exposures will be accompanied by an exhibit from January 5 - February 24, 2007, at SF Camerawork’s new gallery at 657 Mission St. in San Francisco.
