Whittier Reads My California!

The enthusiastic team at the Whittier Public Library has assembled an impressive calendar of events as the entire community dives into the My California anthology starting TODAY.

Whittier is the fourth community to choose My California as a One City, One Book pick. From the local paper:

(T)his year’s selection - “My California: Journeys by Great Writers” - is a compilation of essays that “just seems to have come at the right time,” said foundation President Sue Settlage.

“It has authors you know and unknown authors, so it’s a very different book than the other ones we’ve chosen,” Settlage said. “We’re pleased with its general appeal.”

A collaboration between Angel City Press and CaliforniaAuthor.com, My California is a bestselling collection of narrative travel and adventure stories by twenty-seven California authors and journalists. The best part: All of the contributors donated their work so that book sales could benefit the California Arts Council and writing programs for children statewide. “My California is an extraordinary example of the contagious spirit of giving back,” says Angel City Press Publisher Paddy Calistro.

This week’s kick off events range from today’s 1 pm Book Coffee and Conversation to Thursday night’s My California Road Trip with contributors Patt Morrison, Edward Humes, Veronique de Turenne and Donna Wares.
