Saving Bukowski’s Bungalow

The little bungalow where Charles Bukowski lived at 5124 De Longpre Avenue in East Hollywood is vacant now. The current owner put the property up for sale, posting an ad at Craigslist: “You can easily tear down the old building and do new construction!”

The owner, though, never reckoned that the author’s fans would put up such a fight.

“I don’t know if they’re going to be able to save this property,” says John Martin, Bukowski’s publisher, “but I think it’s as interesting and important as anything of its kind in the city.”
