A few stray notes from this morning

Edward Humes, author of Over Here: How the G.I. Bill Tranformed the American Dream, was on NPR’s Morning Edition today, along with George McGovern and director Arthur Penn, talking about the remarkable initiative that sent an entire generation to college to college for the first time. Ed says, “Interest in the history and aftermath of World War II has been piqued by Ken Burns’ excellent new PBS series, The War, and the topic that has captured my imagination, the G.I. Bill, is now back on the table in a big way.”

Derek Powazek is reviving Fray, his storytelling website, as a quarterly web and print publication. The first issue will be called “Busted” and he’s looking for author submissions.

• The team at 826LA is renovating a building for the new Echo Park Time Travel Mart and Writing Center. This will be 826LA’s second SoCal writing center for kids and will serve LA’s Eastside. Check out the photos here.
