Yup, the book’s still got legs!

We just learned that the Benicia Public Library has selected My California: Journeys by Great Writers as its community book for 2008.

The Bay Area community of Benicia is the fifth California city to choose the anthology. Librarian Helaine Bowles said her town will be reading My California and hosting events from March 1 to April 15. Stay tuned for details.

The backstory: My California is a collection of narrative nonfiction stories by twenty-seven of California’s finest writers. And here’s the best part: All of these great writers donated their work so that all book proceeds (nearly $90,000 so far) go to the California Arts Council and writing programs for children around the state.

BTW: My California makes a great holiday gift, too.
