Remembering California authors

Sue Alexander, author 25 children’s books and a founding member of the Los Angeles-based Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, died on July 3. She was 74. Read more about her life and work at the Los Angeles Times.

Michael Turner, the comic book artist/creator of popular characters Witchblade and Fathom, died on June 27 in Santa Monica. He was 37. “He was definitely one of the most popular and influential comic-book artists working right now,” Andrew Farago, curator of San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum, told the Los Angeles Times.
